Plan Your First Wedding Dance
71First Wedding Dance
Your first wedding dance as husband and wife should be special--something you will remember for the rest of your lives. Now it is something you can share with the world!
While a traditional dance such as a waltz, swing, foxtrot, or rumba may have been what your parents and grandparents did, you can choose something much more contemporary like hip-hop or a break dance. How about popping or twisting? You could disco or hustle or have your whole wedding party dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller.
Below is another couple doing Thriller at their reception. WAIT FOR IT! In this next one, Thriller does not begin until 4 minutes into the video.....
Here is a video where the wedding party dances to "You're The One That I Want" from Grease....After a quick change back into her full wedding gown, the bride and groom do a real first wedding dance to Beyonce's "Ave Maria." Enjoy.
Yes, couples are doing all of these dances and more. Some are taking lessons for up to six months before the big day. Others are hiring choreographers for up to $1000 to teach them moves to a favorite song that will impress reception guests. This is the latest trend in wedding reception dances.
If you are talented, coordinated, and brave, you can save some money by choreographing your own dance moves with your fiance. You will have to practice more than you can imagine. If you want to surprise your guests, you will have to keep all of this practicing a secret as so many couples do.
Just arrange it all with your band or DJ ahead of time. If you choose to do a group dance, you will have to swear everyone involved to secrecy. Good luck with that!
The couples who go to all of this trouble say they want to avoid that awkward first dance, holding each other at arm's length and just have fun. They want to provide entertainment to their families and friends. They also want to have wonderful memories and great video of their first wedding dance.
To prove this point and to get ideas on how you can surprise your guests, go to You Tube and type in "first wedding dance". You will be amused and amazed to see some of the great dance moments posted there.
So be creative, original, and practice, practice, practice. What a great way to get in shape for your wedding. Remember to have fun with it. You could be the next couple everyone is watching on the internet!
Jenna Bush's First Wedding Dance
by Barbara
(Minnesota)
Jenna Bush and her husband, Henry chose to dance to Lovin' In My Baby's Eyes for their first wedding dance. And for the father daughter dance at her wedding, she chose You Are So Beautiful. Two great songs and now a lot more brides will choose them because Jenna Bush did. Nothing wrong with that but if you and your fiance have a special song that is your favorite, choose that one. If you and your dad have a special song that has always been "your song" since you were a little girl, choose that one instead. Remember that this is your day, not Jenna's!
Choose Your Favorite First Wedding Dance Song
by: Juanita
Barbara,
You are so right. It is nice to imitate the first daughter's wedding and she had some great ideas per the photos the White House has released but it is important to choose your favorite first wedding dance song. Be original and creative. Nothing wrong with borrowing ideas but mix it up a bit by adding your own creative touches to them. Make them your own.
Bride And Groom Dance
by Laura
(Coleman, Texas)
For our first bride and groom dance at our reception, my fiance and I took lessons at a local dance studio. We learned the waltz and some other ballroom dancing, things we had never before done.
We waltzed for less than 3 minutes and then the DJ invited everyone to dance and after a few minutes we started dancing to slow rock.
It was fun and the older folks seemed to appreciate and enjoy that we waltzed. They had fun waltzing, especially our grandparents.
We took lessons for 6 weeks and we got pretty good although we are not ready for Dancing With The Stars yet.
Wedding Waltz
by: Juanita
Laura,
Hey old friend! Thank you for visiting my site!
A wedding waltz! What a great idea! I am sure that Carroll and Addie loved seeing you dance the same dance they danced at their own wedding 59 years ago now.
Take care.
