Great Books For Teens

Great Books for teens are usually found in the teen/youth section of a bookstore. I know you're probably thinking, "I'm into the science fiction section or the romance section of a bookstore", so you might think the juvenile section doesn't have anything that will interest you.

I know because I'm the same way. My favorite thing in the world is literature. However, I also enjoy reading teen books. Why? It's because I can relate to teen books, so they catch my interest easily.

If you don't really know what type of book to try out, simply take my advice, and go to the youth section of the bookstore, and look until you find something. Trust me, you'll find something because they have everything from science fiction to romance. They have everything from mystery to high school drama. The best thing about any book you choose from, no matter what genre it may fall under, you'll be able to find something that will relate to you.

If you need some suggestions about some books to read, please help yourself to read some of the reviews down below of some books from the youth section that I've read.

Freaky Green Eyes

No, Freaky Green Eyes by Joyce Carol Oates is not about how freaky green eyes are.

The novel is about Franky Pierson, a young teenage girl, who is having a hard time dealing with life. For example, her parents have separated, and her mom has vanished without a trace.

Now, Franky needs to reveal her alter ego, but does she want to know the truth? Where is her mom? What has happened to her? Will she ever find out? Did her father have anything to do with her mother's disappearance? When the truth is revealed, will her life be the same? For the answer to these and other compelling questions that will pop up as you go along, find out by reading it.

Franky has a part of her deep down inside that secretly knows the truth. She calls this part of herself by the same name as the title of the book. How freaky is that?

This book is so compelling and mind-boggling that I read this book during school. I usually pay attention in school because I love school! I even read it during gym class! This is amazing because I love PE, too!

I have to admit that this book is one of the greatest psychological thrillers I have ever read. This book takes you inside the mind of Franky Pierson as she struggles to find the truth and reveal it.

You can really see the person deep down inside her take over her. Trust me when I say you'll love this novel from its impeccable, fast-paced rhythm, to how much it thrills the secret person deep down inside of you.

Guitar Girl

Guitar Girl is about a girl, Molly Montgomery, that dreamed of owning a cake shop since she was young, not becoming famous.

However, plans change when she and two other friends want more attention from the "in" crowd at school. Together, Molly and her friends start a band that received little gigs and little attention until Dean and his friend, T, join the band.

At first, when their manager, Paul, discovers the band, Molly is excited and she has fun. However, too many things happen too fast behind stage.

First, Molly falls in love with Dean, but Dean and Molly have to keep their relationship a secret. Then, Paul, the band's manager, tries to force Molly into a life that she doesn't want.

I really loved Guitar Girl by Sara Manning because I can really relate to the book since I, myself, am in a band.

I thought this book taught me a great deal of what I want to be in the band, and what I definitely don't want to happen in my band.

I also loved how this novel has so much drama that I really hated putting it down, so it was a fast, easy read for me. If you love music, or you're in a band, and you're a girl (Sorry guys, I think this book is too girly for you. Look at the title of the book.), then this book is something to totally look into. If you're not in a band, but you want to read this book, this book may inspire you to start a band yourself.

That Was Then This Is Now

That Was Then This is Now by S.E. Hinton, is a heart-melting story of how the relationship between two best friends deteriorates when one makes a wrong decision, and the other best friend brings consequences to the one wrong decision.

Bryon and Mark have always lived life on the wild side, hustling and partying until the hustle with the wrong people. Then the life of a close friend of the two brothers is killed. Bryon's perspective of life changes completely while Mark acts as if their friend was never killed.

Bryon soon begans to mature as he gets a girlfriend, and a job while Mark still parties. Sadly, the two brothers start to grow apart. However, they still remain best friends until Bryon finds out that Mark is a reason why M&M, the brother of Bryon's girlfriend, ends up in the hospital after a drug overdose. Finally, Bryon has to make a decision that will change both the lives of Bryon and Mark forever.

I thought this book was amazing. It had so much action and drama. There was never a dull moment in the book.

For those of you who do not know, this book is a sequel to the Outsiders. Plus it is an easy read (I read it in four hours.) So, if you like action, drama, and an easy read, this book is definitely for you.

Let's Get Lost

Isabel is a mean teen who is without a mother in Let's Get Lost by Sara Manning.

Isabel used to be bullied when she was in middle school, but not anymore. Now she is the who does the bullying. However, she doesn't bully Smith.

Now who could that be? Smith is the 22 year old guy she's dating. She can be both mean and sweet to him. She loves Smith, but he doesn't love her.

He loves another girl, Molly, and he always will. Smith uses Isabel until he finds out her true age, as well as every other truth about her. Isabel's father finds out his daughter's secrets along with Smith. Now, Isabel must make decisions and face life-ruining consequences. What will Isabel do? Will her attitude change?

Let's Get Lost is an example of an attitude that is expressed when a parent dies. Isabel expresses her anger through this book as she faces consequences, but also finds herself in the middle of it all.

In the story, relationships are ruined, but then restored. Sara Manning makes you think twice in this book about how lies will affect others. It also causes you to imagine what would happen if you lost a parent.

I recommend this book because I guarantee every girl that reads this book will be able to find some way to connect to it. Sorry guys, but in my opinion, this is more of a book for girls. I don't believe most boys would enjoy this particular one. My brothers refuse to even read it.

Girls, pick up a copy at the bookstore or your school or public library and read it!

When It Happens

In When It Happens, by Susane Colasanti, it is Sara's and Tobey's senior year of high school. Even though they go to the same school, they both live in separate worlds.

Sara is a "smarty" in the school. She is enrolled in all honors classes and she is focused only on getting into college. That and this jock who she has had a crush on since the end of her junior year seem to keep her far from Tobey.

Tobey doesn't plan on going to college. He plans on making it big in a band. Not only is he focused on his band and music, but now he is also focused on trying to get Sara to notice him and, most importantly, to like him.

Tobey finally gets what he wants when he convinces Sara's best friend to trade spots with him in a music theory class. Guess who he gets to sit by?

Sara gradually starts to like Tobey, and the two begin to date. In order for their relationship to work, both will have to change themselves and be truthful to each other. Will this couple be able to handle it?

This novel by Susanne Colasanti is a great novel for those who like double plot lines. There are different narrations on the same events happening so you get two perspectives on everything going on.

I loved When It Happens because it is not like a normal teen romance book where you just hear the girl's point of view. Instead, you get both the girl's and the boy's viewpoints. So, girls, if you want to know how boys think, and boys, if you want to know how us girls think, this is the book for you!

The Giver

In The Giver, by Lois Lowry, everyone is the same. Everyone, that is, except Jonas.

At the ceremony of twelve, Jonas receives the special job of being the committee's new receiver. Little does he know the harsh difficulties of being the new receiver.

He soon finds out how emotionally draining it is when he meets his trainer, The Giver.

Jonas' trainer transforms memories to Jonas, good memories and awful memories. Jonas has to keep everything a secret from his parents. As Jonas finds out a secret, he doesn't want the job as the receiver anymore. He doesn't want to belong to the community anymore.

With the help of his trainer, Jonas runs away to find peace. He leaves with the hopes of finding a better place to live. Does he find a better place? Does a better place exist for him?

Seeing this book at first glance, it didn't seem like something I would read. However, I read it because my boyfriend, (Hi Zachy!) wanted me to. I have to say it is a very fantastic book!

This book made me thankful to live in a world where everyone is different. I live in a world where no one has to act the same, no one has to dress the same, and no one has to live exactly the same.

I'm glad I live in a world where I can do what I want. Of course, people will see, but they won't be able to tell me I can't do what I want.

I encourage you to read this Newberry Award winning book because it will open you up to a world you could never imagine yourself being involved in. Lois Lowry did a great job. So, read it!

Nick And Norahs Infinite Playlist

Nick And Norahs Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is a true teenage romance/adventure novel.

The story starts in a club in Manhattan and ends at a train station after traveling around what seems like most of Manhattan.

Nick is in a queercore band. Don't worry though; he's not gay. His girlfriend, Trish, has dumped him, and he's still hung up about it. When Trish shows up at the club Nick's band has a gig at, Nick asks a girl to be his girlfriend for five minutes.

Norah is at her uncle's club with her best friend, waiting to take her home once again after she gets wasted once again. She envies her friend for having a body that grabs the guy's attention until this guy asks her to be his girlfriend for five minutes.

Nick and Norah's five minute relationship turns into something more as they end up coincidentally staying with each other the whole night. At first, the night starts out as a disaster as the two begin to get over their ex's. By the end of the night, Nick and Norah are able to successfully call themselves a couple, but not for just five minutes.

If you've ever wanted to jump into the wild side of life in New York, or if you want to get over an ex, then this book is definitely for you.

Not only does this book take you through several clubs, but it also is a story of reviving hope that there is always someone for you, even when it feels like the love of your life has dumped you.

Oh yeah, check out the now in theaters movie based on this book. Don't forget to read Nick And Norahs Infinite Playlist though!

Right Behind You

The novel, Right Behind You, by Gale Giles, is a story of redemption. It is the story of a young man learning to live with the consequences of his actions. They young man realizes he cannot forget or change what he has done, and he learns to live with it.

When Kip was nine, out of envy and malice, he set his cousin, Bobby, on fire. Bobby died three days later in a hospital while Kip was put in a juvenile facility. Kip lived the next four years of his life learning to control his anger until his therapist thought he was ready to live his life outside of a juvenile facility.

However, it's not easy. Kip has to change his name and move to another state to avoid treacherous acts of people who think justice hasn't been served yet.

Kip also has to learn not to "feed his ghosts", the guilt of his transgressions.

Never in my life have I ever found a greater book for teens about forgiveness and redemption from committing heinous acts. If you are feeling guilty about things you've done in the past, this is a book for you to read. You will learn how to heal those guilty wounds living inside you. So read this book by Gale Giles today!

I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You

I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Alley Carter is a funky teenage novel for girls.

Cammie Morgan is more than just your average teenage girl who goes to more than just an average school. Cammie goes to the Gallagher Academy For Exceptional Young Women, or as Cammie would rather say it, a school for spies.

It's Cammie's sophomore year at the Gallagher Academy. It's a year she finally starts training for real missions. Known as the chameleon, she never expects on a training mission a teenage boy from town would ever discover her. Neither did Cammie expect to like the boy back.

With the help of her friends, Cammie is able to date this town boy. Despite the fact that this town boy, Zach, is telling Cammie the truth about himself, Cammie is telling Zack all lies. Eventually, Cammie has to reveal her true identity to Zack, but will it make their relationship stronger, or will it cause them to grow apart?

Despite the misleading title, this book is a really great, fantastic novel for teenage girls. It has everything a teenage girl needs in a book. It has romance, humor, friendship, love, and action. To tell you the truth, at first, I didn't really want to read this book because it seemed a little too quirky for me. However, I was wrong, and I'm glad I read it. If you do like this book, check out the next book in the series: Cross My Heart And Hope To Spy.Trust me--you'll enjoy reading I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You, so go find a copy today!

Very True! I have read many "teen" books and find them very interesting. I'm sure that a lot of people don't realize that many of the movies that they watch (Twilight, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Nick and Nora's Inifinate Playlist, etc.) once started out as a "teen" book. Great job!
