I Can't Find A Job!

In this miserable time of economic downturn and unemployment, a lot of people are saying, "I can't find a job." After you have been looking for three to six months for a new job after a layoff, maybe you should start taking matters into your own hands and figure out how to create your own job instead of sitting around and worrying. Yes, create your own job. Make your own income. Don't depend on a company to pay you. It is your life and your mortgage, not the government's so don't depend on Obama or anyone else to take care of you. They will not!

Where am I coming from? My husband finally found a job after looking for one for 11 long months. At that point, he was desperate to take anything. A company from back east came to town to hire 2500 people. The jobs were snatched up quickly. My husband got one. We were thrilled. It was a low paying customer service phone job, but at least it bought gas and groceries and got him out of the house. Exactly one year after he started his job, the company shut down. Great! Now what?

While he looked for that job for 11 months, we went through all of our savings, trying to pay the bills. For five of those 11 months, I was looking for a full time job as well. Fortunately for us, we had the small amount of income that I make from my three websites. It fed us and paid our utilities each month.

David began applying all over the place, including out of town, out of state, and out of country jobs in the Middle East, but nothing. The phone never rang. He asked everyone he knew if they knew of anything. He applied for jobs from the Texas Workforce Commission. Nothing.

My husband finally decided to take matters into his own hands and create his own income. He started by building two websites through SBI!, the company that I have been using for five years to build my websites. He makes money from the site when visitors click on the Google ads and Infolink ads on the site. There are also a few other ads.

David had spent the last five years prior to the layoff job in the Middle East, mostly in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Dubai so he built a site about his experiences there, Iraq Up Close And Personal.

David loves to garden and grows vegetables every year, no matter where we have lived. He even tried to plant tomatoes in Iraq!

Gardening for David is a relaxing hobby so it was natural for him to build Vegetable Gardening Made Easier, a site where he gives tips and advice on how to grow vegetables in your backyard. He makes money from visitors clicking on the Google and Infolink ads on this site as well. He also sells seeds and gardening supplies there.

Because David no longer believes in putting all of his eggs in one basket, he writes hubs on HubPages, which I told him about. He has hubs on a variety of subjects and life experiences that you will enjoy reading about. On HubPages, he makes money from Google ads and Kontera.

It takes a while to get a lot of visitors to your websites so income is low at first. Because of this, David also decided to build an Amazon store where he sells garden seeds and products. His store is called Garden Seeds And Products. God has been blessing this store a lot since April 1, 2011 and he is getting a lot of orders every day and all night long. He has been going to the Post Office to mail out orders each and every day. We are confident that his income will continue to grow and soon will replace the job he lost and continue to grow until we can pay off the rest of our debts and build our savings back up. ***Note to HubPages: This is not a broken link. It is a link to my husband's Amazon store so they can see for themselves that it works.***

I am glad that David took his financial life into his own hands and started his own job. I have two brothers who have been unemployed for years. They will not do a thing except hope for the phone to ring. I have told them over and over to create their own jobs. They could cut grass, rake leaves, wash windows, clean houses, walk pets, pick up doggy-do, drive people around town, be a personal shopper, start a delivery service, and the list goes on. But they get angry with me and tell me they need a REAL job. I have explained to them that they can make their own real job with real income but they refuse and just sit there. This is no way to live.

If you are sitting by the phone, waiting on someone to call you and offer you a dream job, it probably won't happen. Do you have a hobby that you enjoy? Would you like to share it with others? Consider building a website and sell items related to that hobby. Make your income happen. Have multiple streams of income. Create your own job while you are unemployed and then when someone asks you what you do, tell them you work for yourself. You will make more money working for yourself than you will earn working for someone else.

@certguy...The company is called SBI or Site Build It and there is a link above. We build our own websites using SBI. My husband has contacted many seed companies, finding ones that are willing to work with him. While he was unemployed, he decided to do something worthwhile with his time, instead of watching Oprah reruns and playing video games. He worked and continues to work 12-14 hour days to make a living. To have your own business, you have to be willing to do whatever it takes and not take no for an answer. You learn to do what needs to be done. Over time, your clientele grows and you begin to make a profit. Like him, you have to do a lot of research and hard work, but he still has not received a job interview call and it has been almost 18 months...Good luck.

I have always said a little money is better than none at all. I remember in years past I worked for a farmer for $1 an hour just to keep us fed through the tough times. I hated it, but it did help get us through. Pride should never be a factor in such situations.

Thank you both. I wrote a hub a while back on working in the Middle East, which my husband did for a period of six years and still every day people comment and email me asking me to help them get a job. I have no connections and yet people just sit at home waiting. They need to take control of their lives and begin to make money. My two brothers refuse to do anything. They have their application in with a temporary company and once in a great while they will work for a few days. Other than that, they live off of my mother's social security which is not much. They will not even go mow a lawn for $20. I do not understand this at all. We are all in charge of our lives (except for God, of course) so we should take charge and make sure we are doing something to earn the money we need.

Finding steady reliable work that pays enough to keep you going is hard these days. It seems the quality and pay for most jobs has gone down. Check out my hubs for ideas on creating extra income.
