Work In Colorado Springs

Perhaps you are thinking of relocating here and you need information on Colorado Springs jobs.

According to the latest articles in the Colorado Springs Gazette, 25,000 local residents are out of work and searching for jobs. The unemployment rate is at its highest level in 17 years. Unemployment was at 7.7% for January of 2009 which is very high for this city.

When we moved to Colorado Springs, my husband landed his first full time job within two weeks driving a truck for a restaurant supply company, delivering supplies all around the city. He landed a second part time weekend job there about one month later. His second job was cleaning the doctors' lounges at Memorial Hospital and he kept that job for about six months. Then he quit the restaurant supply job and got a full time job with the hospital in the warehouse.

This is the job he kept for the four years we lived in Colorado Springs. The pay was not all that great, but the benefits were excellent, especially the health insurance. It cost us a whole $10 to have our daughter, including doctor visits, labs, delivery, and hospitalization.

Colorado's unemployment rate jumped to a 21 year high of 6.6% compared to the United States' unemployment rate of 7.6% for January of 2009.

The schools in Colorado will be receiving $900 million in government stimulus money so public school teachers and associated school positions will be open. If you are in the medical profession, especially if you are a nurse, you will be in high demand here. Hospitality jobs such as working in hotels and restaurants are also in high demand, since Colorado Springs is a tourist destination.

Colorado Springs jobs are also available for those who want to work for Christian organizations such as Focus On The Family. Customer service jobs in call centers abound as well.

There are many jobs in Colorado Springs due to the large number of employers who have relocated there, either to support the military, the high-tech industry, or the Christian community.

The military has three bases, Norad, and the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs so many defense contractors have moved here to support the military and the local economy. They include:

Boeing

General Dynamics

Harris Corporation

ITT

L-3 Communications

Lockheed Martin

Northrup Grumman

Agilent

Cypress Semiconductor

Hewlett-Packard

Intel

SNIA

Verizon Business

Many Christian organizations have moved to the area, bringing jobs in Colorado Springs because there is a good, solid, Christian conservative base in the area. The top Christian employers are:

Association Of Christian Schools International

Compassion International

Christian And Missionary Alliance

Focus On The Family with James Dobson

HCJB

International Bible Society

Roman Catholic Diocese Of Colorado Springs

The Navigators

WAY-FM Network

Young Life

In addition to all of the Christian organizations, there are hundreds of Christian churches in the area as well as some private Christian schools. All of these offer additional job opportunities.

The health care, tourism, and call center industries also offer a large chunk of employment opportunities in Colorado Springs. Some insurance companies, computer and phone support services, and financial services all have call centers in the city.

You may want to consider opening a bed and breakfast or a franchised restaurant because there is a huge amount of tourism. Make it a family-friendly place and you will have a lot of business.

I hope this information is helpful to you as you begin your job search in the Colorado Springs area.

Hi Shannon...I bet you are attending Nazarene Bible College. That is why we went. I am glad to be of help. It was scary going there without a job, but my husband had 3 jobs within just a few weeks and worked them all for a while. He dropped to 2 and then finally got a fulltime decent job and dropped the other one. It still was not enough to support a family without being on aid, unless you already have a degree or a useful skill. We really enjoyed living there though and I wish we had stayed instead of going into "ministry." That was a nightmare!

I have been in the Springs for a month and haven't found a job yet. This was extremely helpful for me. I put in 3 times the amount of resumes with this list then I did searching on my own!
