Cheap Wedding Tips

Here are some cheap wedding tips to help you plan a wonderful wedding while staying within budget. These tips are found all over this website.

1. The most important thing I can tell you is DO NOT GO INTO DEBT AS YOU PLAN YOUR WEDDING! NO CREDIT CARDS! NO BORROWING MONEY! Yes, I am shouting it.

Do not start your new married life together in debt. Money problems are the number 1 cause for divorce in the United States. Why would you want to set yourself up for failure before you've even begun?

Just so we are clear, no borrowing money. Make due with the money you, your fiance, your parents, and his parents have. You and/or your fiance may need to work a little overtime or take a second job to save up for a decent wedding. That is okay. Or you can just have a small and cheap wedding and that is okay, too. I think it is better to spend small on your wedding which is a one day party and save the big bucks for a down payment on a home.

2. Have the wedding either in your church or in the home of a relative so you do not have to pay a fee (or at the very most a nominal fee at some churches.) If you do have your wedding at someone's home, make sure you and your party do all of the work, including set up and clean up. As the bride, appoint responsible people in charge of this. You will be too busy being a bride to actually do any of the work on your wedding day.

3. Here is another of my cheap wedding tips. Do a lot of the stuff yourself, with the help of family and close friends. You do not need to hire caterers and other service people. If there is a decent baker in the family, ask if she would be willing to bake your cake for a discounted price. You do not need a glamorous work of art for your cake, just a nice looking, good tasting cake. Put a topper on it and it is fine.

4. A few more cheap wedding tips would be to borrow a friend's wedding dress and to make your veil.

Honest, you don't need to buy a brand new designer wedding gown. You can borrow one from a friend or relative and then return it. My mom borrowed hers from a friend and it was a big savings. You will wear it for just a few hours and never put it on again so why spend a ton of money on it? If you borrow a dress, please have it dry cleaned before you return it.

For my own wedding, I bought a very inexpensive wedding gown through the JC Penney catalog. I got it for $125. I am short so I had to hem it, which I did myself.

5. Make your own inexpensive and easy wedding veil.

My daughter-in-law made hers and she looked great for her wedding.

6. Shop for wedding rings at a pawn shop. You can get some very good deals on wedding rings at pawn shops. This will save you a lot of money. No one needs to know that your rings are not brand new.

7. Read through this hub and you will find a lot more tips on how to save money while planning your wedding. Best wishes!

Cheap Wedding Reception Ideas

With gas prices over $4 a gallon now, good cheap wedding reception ideas are needed to stay within your wedding budget. With a little creativity, you can do just that.

It is possible to have a very nice reception and not spend thousands of dollars on it. Quite a few pages on this site deal with different ideas for creating an inexpensive wedding reception.

First, sit down with creative family members and do some brainstorming. Include your mom, grandmothers, sister, aunts, cousins, anyone who is imaginative and willing to be helpful. Include good cooks and anyone with an artistic flair. Some of these ladies have been to a lot of weddings and will have some great cheap wedding reception ideas for you.

Perhaps one of these ladies is a fabulous baker or cook and can help out with preparing food or even by baking your wedding cake for a low price.

My grandmother baked the most beautiful wedding cake for my mother when she got married. My grandmother's sister created a beautiful wedding veil for my mother. And my grandmother's other sister made some delicious dishes to serve at the reception. Various cousins served the food and helped clean up so her family really came through for her. So be sure to check with your family first.

For more ideas, gather some close friends from school, work, or church for another brainstorming session and see what ideas they can come up with. Most people are happy to share ideas and help with a wedding as it is such a joyous occasion.

You will be amazed at how many will give you helpful advice and how many will offer to help you out as well. Of course, if they help you, you should invite them to the wedding. So don't invite anyone to a brainstorming session if you have no intention of inviting them to the ceremony and reception.

If someone you know has a large yard, maybe out in the country where parking is not a problem, ask if you can have your reception there. Let the owner know that you will take care of all of the decorating, setting up, and cleaning up.

In case of rain, make sure you have a backup plan. For instance, the reception could be held in the property owner's home, a barn (that would have to be cleaned out ahead of time just in case), or you could rent a tent to be brought out and set up if the forecast calls for rain.

Some couples rent a tent and set it up even when the weather is perfect. It can be used for the meal and to keep insects off of the guests and food. Dancing and mingling could still be done outdoors under the stars in the evening.

Renting a tent is also great for keeping the hot sun off of guests if you have an afternoon reception as well. Air conditioning will have to be provided if it is a hot day so be sure and plan for that in your cheap wedding reception ideas budget.

Instead of hiring a band or a DJ, put together a wedding music mixed CD or purchase a wedding music CD at a party store or a wedding supply store. If you choose to make your own, pick out your favorite songs and burn them on several CD's. Choose someone to be in charge of playing and changing CD's during the wedding reception so it goes smoothly.

One of my favorite cheap wedding reception ideas is to borrow furniture. Instead of renting tables and chairs, see if your church or that of a friend will allow you to borrow their tables and chairs. You will need one or two friends with pickup trucks and good backs to transport the tables and chairs and help you set them up.

Make sure you pay them for the gas and provide them with cold drinks during the moving process. Don't forget to make arrangements with them to load up and return the furniture after the wedding as well.

Cheap Wedding Supplies

Instead of spending top dollar for your wedding, buy cheap wedding supplies at dollar stores and online.

I have covered buying all sorts of supplies for your wedding and reception at dollar stores around your town on other pages at Create A Christian Wedding. There are also many websites that sell cheap supplies for weddings where you can save a bundle of cash.

If you Google "cheap wedding supplies," you will find that 700,000 sites come up. Most of them sell supplies that you can use for your ceremony and for your reception from decorations and favors to dishes, cake toppers, and many other things.

If you Google "cheap supplies for weddings," over 13 million sites come up!

Googling "discount wedding supplies" brings up over 26 million websites. So you have a lot to go through and choose from.

Before you Google anything, sit down with your fiance and discuss what type of wedding you want to have and how much money you have to spend on it. Then make a list of what you would like to buy and the colors that you will use. Now you are ready to begin Googling for things for your wedding. Mark various websites when you find things that interest you. Write down the items and the cost and keep shopping as you may find the same item cheaper or you might find something you like better.

Once you are sure on items, buy them using your debit card. Do not charge things and go into debt. First, using a charge card causes you to spend more. Second, why would you want to spend the first several months of your married life paying for things used at your wedding? Debt is no way to begin your life together.
