Cheap Unique Wedding Dresses
Cheap Unique Wedding Dresses
First, you need to get the vision of a brand new designer wedding gown with a long train out of your mind and start thinking of something pretty but cheap, possibly used. A used wedding gown is fine. A used wedding gown is way better than some of the freaky designer creations you can find in the wedding magazines.
I cannot believe that brides actually buy some of them. I would not be caught in public in them, much less pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for them; would you?
First of all, they are worn by starving waifs who look like they are in pain and have not had a bite to eat in weeks. Some of the dresses look like nightgowns. There is nothing at all glamorous about a bride wearing a nightie to get married in.
Still other dresses hardly cover any of you. Case in point: One of my husband's nieces wore a strapless wedding gown that was beautiful, but she popped out during the reception and gave my young children and all of the other guests a peep show! I am not kidding so be careful if you choose a strapless gown. There is potential danger!
Here is a video of a unique wedding dress that was not so cheap, but it is a lot of fun to watch, almost magical, as if the bride were a Barbie Fairy Princess...
There are some beautiful prom dresses in stores each year as the spring prom season begins.
Not all of the dresses get bought. That is right. Some white, cream, silver, and gold dresses are left over after prom and go on CLEARANCE! (There are also pretty dresses in black and other colors if you totally want to break tradition and add some color to your wedding.) Some are beautiful and perfect for a wedding gown. No, I am not joking. Turn prom dresses on the clearance rack into cheap unique wedding dresses for next to nothing!
My teenage daughter loves to shop at one of those thin girls only stores at the mall right by our house. During prom season in the spring of 2009, we went in and looked at all of the beautiful prom dresses in many pretty colors. We went back in the fall and some of those same prom dresses were on the clearance rack for as low as $24.99! These can also be found in larger department stores like Sears, JC Penney, Dillards, Macy's, etc. Cheap unique wedding dresses, along with cheap unique dresses for the bridesmaids!
If you are the right size and shape, you may be able to buy a brand new dress for your wedding that is gorgeous for $25 plus tax. Now these dresses were not full length and not all of them were white, but they were gorgeous, so why not? Lots of brides don't wear the traditional dress anymore. The shorter dresses would be perfect for a beach wedding or an outdoor wedding where a long dress would be ruined in the sand, grass, or gravel.
Go to the small clothing shops and department stores at the mall and check the clearance racks after holidays. They sell holiday dresses as well as prom dresses and have plenty left over that they need to get rid of, especially now with the economic turn down.
Use some imagination and turn leftover seasonal dresses from the clearance rack into cheap unique wedding dresses by adding some accessories. You can add a small silky jacket, a scarf, sequined appliques, a shawl, or a pretty belt. Don't forget the veil or the tiara and the bouquet and here comes the bride in a unique creation! Have fun being creative as you shop.
Cheap Medieval Wedding Dresses
If you are into Renaissance festivals, maybe you would like to see some cheap medieval wedding dresses. Each year, there are many Renaissance fairs across the country, and many couples use the Renaissance as a theme for their weddings.
The wedding dresses are gorgeous, but your groom may not like the idea of prancing down the aisle in a pair of tights and elf shoes! Think "Robin Hood: Men In Tights"--hysterical movie, but the outfits were not exactly masculine, right? So if you have your heart set on this, talk it over with your guy and realize that not all men are cut out to wear medieval costumes on their wedding day.
I know my husband would not be caught dead like that out in public and neither would either of my two adult sons...so don't be upset if your Sir Gallahad refuses. If you were him, you probably wouldn't wear the tights either, right?
Maybe you could compromise and let him wear real pants, regular shoes and a medieval shirt and hat. Maybe he could also wear a bow and a quiver filled with manly arrows. You could tell him that he is a manly hunter, and that you will skip the tights. If he still says no, you wear the dress and let him wear a tux. Trust me, you will make a very striking couple and everyone will love your dress!
I Googled Cheap Medieval Wedding Dresses today and exactly 595,000 sites came up. Cheap Plus Size Wedding Dresses
Not all brides are a size double 0. Some brides have plenty of curves and may need cheap plus size wedding dresses. The average size of women in the United States is a size 14, which is not exactly tiny. Don't be offended. Right now, I wear a size 14. I was a size 5 when I got married but three kids and 24 plus years later...
The last few weddings I have been to this year had brides with curves. The bridal magazines and wedding gown designers seem to think that every bride is a toothpick. A quick look through any bridal magazine displays anorexic waifs who look like they have not eaten in years, with the outlines of their bones showing. Who wants to look sick on their wedding day?
Amazingly now, some designers are realizing that there is money to be made by making wedding gowns in sizes that most brides can fit into, including making some cheap plus size wedding dresses. There are many expensive plus size wedding dresses as well, but we are all about saving money here at Create A Christian Wedding.
David's Bridal carries some larger wedding dresses. Every so often they have a $99 dress sale. There is no guarantee on sizes and styles that are on sale, but they are worth looking at.
Some department stores as well as other bridal shops do carry larger dresses but they are usually very expensive.
If you or someone in your family is a talented seamstress, buy a pattern that you love and make your dress. You will save a lot of money and you can make your dress the way you want it to be.
You may be able to hire a good seamstress to make your dress. When I was a girl, my grandmother, Elvina Yorgensen, was a seamstress and had a shop in her home. I was there a lot since I lived across the road. My grandmother made beautiful wedding dresses, veils, and bridesmaid dresses. She was so talented.
Look for someone in the neighborhood who will not charge you an arm and a leg to make your dress. Don't go to a shop in an expensive strip mall where they are forced to charge high prices to pay the rent.
Ask friends and relatives if they know of a good seamstress. Someone does and this could be the perfect way to get cheap plus size wedding dresses made to order. My grandmother would have the brides-to-be come in a few times for fittings before finishing the dresses. I don't think she charged nearly enough for her work and her clients used to tell her that all the time.
Cheap Wedding Bag
Every bride needs a cheap wedding bag to carry a lipstick, a comb, tissues, and some facial powder for touch-ups throughout her big day. A small clutch or other small bag is perfect.
During the actual wedding ceremony, leave your bag with your mother or another relative and then get it after the ceremony as that is when you will need to touch up your lipstick, have a breath mint, take a Motrin, etc.
My daughter just crocheted the prettiest little white clutch that is perfect for a bride to carry. She made the pattern up on her own.
Below is the first bag design that Tiffany made just today, 11/28/09. The second photo shows it is big enough for a box of Reese's Pieces to fit in it.
If you are handy with a crochet needle, you can probably whip one up in no time as well!
You can crochet your own using double crochet stitches. She crocheted the sides together and then folded the top down over the front panel. It looks great. She did not line the bag, but it is designed to just carry a few light things so that should not be a problem. This first one is large enough that her wallet and cell phone fit into it.
You can also sew a bag easily enough, with or without a handle to carry your necessary items.
You can find small wedding bags to buy in Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree as well. Your cheap wedding bag can be white, cream, silver, gold, or whatever color you like. You can buy a small makeup bag. A makeup bag is the perfect size. After all, it is your special day and you can carry whatever you want to carry. There are no real rules. You just want it to look pretty and be functional.
Cheap Wedding Garters
Cheap wedding garters can be found at dollar stores that have a wedding section. I recently found a nice selection of them at Dollar Tree. Amazingly, I bought each for $1 but at some wedding supplies shops you can pay $25 or more for a garter that you will wear for a little while and then it will belong to the guy your new husband tosses it to. So why not just pay $1? It does not make sense to pay more, especially since you won't be keeping it.
If you do want to keep your garter, buy two and have your husband throw the really cheap one and you keep the good one as a keepsake!
Most garters are blue to cover the Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue superstition. Some are white. They are usually satiny with lace and tiny flowers made of fabric.
You can make one with some thin elastic, satiny fabric, lace and a sewing machine. Measure the elastic around your leg and sew it on the wrong side in the middle of the satin fabric that has been cut on a straight line the length of the elastic that went around your leg. Hem the top and bottom of the fabric by the elastic. Sew both ends of the garter together and make sure it fits comfortably around your leg. You will wear it for several hours probably so you want it to feel good.
