Best Honeymoon Ideas
69Best Honeymoon Places
The best honeymoon places are everywhere, depending on what the two of you like. As a little girl, I used to look through magazines at pictures of far away places and dream of my wedding and where I would go on my honeymoon.
I would then cut the pictures out and glue them in my scrapbook and write stories of the sites we would see and the fun my pretend husband and I would have there.
My favorite place to imagine going to on my honeymoon was Paris, France. I have always wanted to go to the Eiffel Tower and visit other beautiful Paris landmarks. When I entered junior high, I took French as my foreign language and studied it for four years, learning about French food, culture, and art. As I studied French in high school, I still imagined myself going there for my honeymoon. Unfortunately, that did not happen. To date, I have not been yet, but I still want to go!
So if you can budget for your dream destination, cut back a little on the actual wedding expenses and plan a dream honeymoon trip. You will remember it for the rest of your life and it will be much more meaningful to you and your husband-to-be than expensive flowers or a designer wedding dress.
As a child, I watched the Wonderful World of Disney each Sunday night, thinking how much fun it would be to visit there. As a young adult, I went to Disneyland five times and each time, I had the time of my life. So why wouldn't a young couple want a Disney honeymoon cruise?
Another best honeymoon place in my opinion is Hawaii. I have wanted to go ever since the Brady Bunch went back in the early 1970's in a two-part episode. I have not been but I still want to go. From the pictures I have seen, any of the islands will do!
Because I live here and the Riverwalk is beautiful and a lot of fun, I think that San Antonio is a great place for a honeymoon. We have first class hotels along the Riverwalk with spas, great restaurants, wonderful downtown shopping, and top notch tourist attractions. Don't forget that we have a Six Flags theme park and SeaWorld Of Texas here.
I spent a year in San Diego and it is another on my top ten list of best honeymoon places to go to. It is gorgeous to watch the sun sink deep into the Pacific Ocean at night. The Coronado Bridge, all lit-up at night is very romantic. Old Town San Diego is a great place to shop for souvenirs and to eat some of the best seafood in the United States. You can swim in the ocean and go sailing or take a day cruise out on the bay. Of all the places I have lived in the United States, San Diego is the prettiest. It is gorgeous year-round.
Colorado Springs is the second prettiest place where I have lived in the U.S. and there are so many natural attractions there in the mountains that it makes the perfect honeymoon getaway. We had the pleasure of living in the Springs for four years while my husband attended Nazarene Bible College. Pikes Peak was the beautiful gift we saw each day from our living room window!
While we lived in El Paso, Texas, we took several vacations up in the mountains of New Mexico. There is a beautiful hotel in Mescalero, New Mexico called Inn Of The Mountain Gods and it is a year-round paradise. If you are wanting a destination wedding but you don't want to leave the United States, this is your place. Gorgeous facilities and a perfect backdrop make this a postcard-perfect wedding setting. It is close to Ruidoso which is a wonderful place to shop in summer and the perfect place to ski in winter.
My parents honeymooned in New York City. I grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York and visited the city a few times. If you have never been there, it would be a great place for a honeymoon. Stay in a first class hotel if you can afford it. The sites and sounds of New York City are like no other city in the world and you and your husband will have the time of your life. It truly is fascinating to see all of those huge buildings. The restaurants in Manhattan are top of the line.
Of course, you should go to at least one Broadway play while you are there. A visit to Central Park, especially in the fall, will enhance your trip. Seeing the colors change in New York is eye candy! I miss that so much. We do not have a fall change of colors here in San Antonio and fall was always my favorite season back there.
Number eight on my list of best honeymoon places is Anchorage, Alaska. I have wanted to visit there since I was a young girl. The sparkling snow, gorgeous trees, and wildlife make it seem so perfect. I must confess I loved the show Men In Trees. The scenery was magnificent.
Number nine on my best honeymoon places list is Port Aransas, Texas. Off the mainland of Texas, you have to go across to the island by ferry. We vacationed there about six years ago and stayed in a beautiful condo for several days. It was right on the beach. The beach was clean, the water was warm and inviting, and strolling the beach at night was so romantic! The seafood restaurants in town had a delicious array and there are plenty of shops for souvenirs as well.
The number ten spot on my best honeymoon places goes to Sydney, Australia. Down under would be fun. The beaches look so blue on TV and in the movies and some little trips to see kangaroos and koalas would be so enjoyable.
Honeymoon In Paris
Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to have a honeymoon in Paris, France. Unfortunately, my husband and I did not get a chance to do that, but I am hoping that one day we will get to go there on vacation.
Paris is the most romantic city in the world. If you choose to go there for your honeymoon, you will probably fly, although you can go by ship, which could be a lot of fun if you can both get enough time off from work.
Of course, once you get there and have checked into your hotel, the first thing you will want to see is what everyone else wants to see in Paris--the Eiffel Tower! It is always crowded, but take the time to go to the top and take in the view. It is worth it and it may be the only time you ever get the chance to do so. Going up at night only adds to the beauty.
Looking north from the Eiffel Tower you will see the Arc de Triomphe, another important attraction that most visitors to Paris want to see. The Arc is in the middle of a big and very busy traffic circle.
Of course, after the Eiffel Tower, most people visit Paris for the exquisite French cuisine. I love French food, but the idea of escargot makes me not hungry! Most of the other food sounds great and tastes great so enjoy. The crusty French baguettes in the morning with cafe au lait are wonderful.
If you are an art lover, you know that among all of the other treasures in Paris is a huge treasure trove of art, the Louvre! Plan to spend most of a day inside if you value paintings. Even then, you will not come close to taking it all in.
At least, go and spend a few hours, hitting the highlights that this fabulous art museum has to offer. See one of the most famous paintings in the world, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa up close and personal.
Visit the Notre Dame Cathedral. Stroll along the Champs Elysee, sip demi tasse or cafe au lait while sitting at a sidewalk cafe table.
Shop for the latest French fashions. They say that Paris is all about the shopping--clothes, shoes, bags, hats, Cartier jewelry. Buy that sexy French perfume.
Soak up the incredible French atmosphere. Have fun with your husband. You are on your honeymoon, making memories that will last you a lifetime.
Take a lot of photos of the sights and of each other. When you get back, make a Honeymoon In Paris scrapbook. Blow up a few photos of the two of you together in the city, frame them and proudly display them to remind you of your wonderful trip.
Disney Honeymoon
A Disney honeymoon would be a dream trip for me. I love Disneyland in Anaheim, California so I think a honeymoon at Orlando's Disneyworld and the other Disney theme parks there would be just perfect!
I know it is not for everyone, but if you love all things-Disney as much as I do, it may be the perfect place for your honeymoon.
As much as there is to see at Disneyland, I am sure that it would be just fine to honeymoon there. You could stay at the Disneyland Hotel in a luxurious suite and watch fireworks at night on your balcony. If you don't want to leave your room, you could order delicious food from room service. I have done this and the Disneyland Hotel is a great place to stay so I highly recommend it.
I have been to Disneyland about seven times and it is still as magical as ever. The convenience of staying at their hotel is that you do not have to drive over to the gigantic parking lot and then stand in a long line to get into Disneyland. You simply go to the floor where the skytram picks up guests and you ride over to the park and get off inside the park. When you want to go back to the hotel, you do the same. You can buy tickets for the park at the front desk. It really is great.
I have never been to Florida at all and I know that there are several Disney parks in Orlando. So I think that a trip to Walt Disney World would be perfect. You could have a different adventure each day and still stay in one of their Disney Resort hotels.
Start out with the Magic Kingdom. Then the next day, try the Disney Hollywood Studio. Epcot Center looks great on TV. Then there is Disney's Animal Kingdom.
There is also a Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park which sounds like the perfect place to work on your tan, provided that you take along plenty of sunscreen.
From their web site, I see they offer Disney cruises as well. You can take a Disney honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean or to the Mediterranean. How perfect does that sound? Choose the number of nights you want to sail and your destinations and you are off! That sounds so wonderful.
The ships stop in ports all along the way so you can get off of the ship and see the sights and shop, then hop aboard for delicious foods served on the ship. The food is included in your ticket price so you don't have to waste your shopping money on food.
The ships themselves are like self-contained cities with all of the amenities you need and want. They say the staterooms are good-sized with ample storage and there is great entertainment on board each night. There are several dining areas, each with a different theme and snacks are provided between meals.
Honeymoon In San Diego
If you love incredible beauty, mild weather, and the ocean, a honeymoon in San Diego might be perfect for you and your new husband. I went to Point Loma College which is now Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego.
Sunsets in San Diego are spectacular as the sun dips into the Pacific Ocean in beautiful hues of pink, blue, and purple. It is an incredible sight and is my favorite thing about San Diego. Very romantic! The beaches are sandy and the harbor cruises are fun.
Don't forget to check out the beautiful Coronado Bridge at night when it is all lit up.
SeaWorld in San Diego is wonderful. I enjoy this SeaWorld the most. They have a lot of marine exhibits that are really incredible.
The San Diego Zoo should not be missed. It is said to be the most famous zoo in the world. Take the tour by bus first and then walk around.
If you want to shop for arts and crafts and one-of-a-kind items and souvenirs, Old Town San Diego is the place for you to go. I love to shop there and explore. Some of the best seafood places to eat are in Old Town. Fresh seafood cooked to perfection awaits you in several great restaurants there. You will love it. If you have time, visit Balboa Park. It has outdoor beauty as well as 13 museums. There will be at least one that you will enjoy visiting. The art museum is very nice. I had to go there to do a paper for my college art appreciation class and I had a great time. This was my first visit to an art museum.
Take the time to visit Mission Bay. Swim, sail a boat, fly a kite, rollerblade, ride a bike. This is a beautiful bay and the water is not as choppy as the beaches on the ocean. Seagulls are plentiful. Bring your camera to this beach, my favorite San Diego beach.
If you honeymoon in San Diego between December 26 and March 31, you can take a tour out in the ocean to see gray whales migrating from Alaska to Mexico at 1050 North Harbor Drive. Call (619) 234-4111 for more information.
Honeymoon In New York City
Consider taking your honeymoon in New York City as my parents did way back in 1958. Of course, the city has changed considerable in 53 years, but it is still an incredible place to visit.
I grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York so I got to visit the city a few times before we moved away to Texas when I was 16. The city is an incredible place, hard to describe.
New York City is a very expensive place to stay but if you can swing it, the city will not disappoint. I would stayat the Plaza Hotel because it has been a lifelong dream. Think "Bride Wars." Of course, there are many other fine hotels in Manhattan.
After checking in, I would go to Empire State Building.
Pay the fee and go all the way up to the observation deck on the 86th floor. Step out of the elevator and out onto the windy observation deck to take in all of New York City. This, my friends, is the most romantic spot in all of the city. Think "Sleepless In Seattle" and "An Affair To Remember."
There are binoculars for you to use up there, the kind where you put money in and they show you the most incredible view. Stay up there until nighttime hits. The city completely changes once it lights up. Totally amazing.
Of course, no visit to NYC is complete without a ferry trip over to Ellis Island to see another very famous landmark, the Statue of Liberty. Walk inside her and think about all of the immigrants who saw her as they entered our country by ship and thanked God for the freedom she offered them. When my father was a boy, he was allowed to walk up into the torch, but you can no longer do that.
Grand Central Station is a wonderful train station. People come and go so quickly there and it is a fascinating place to sit and watch people come and go.
Make sure you ride the underground subway. There are signs all over the city pointing you downstairs. Hop a car a few blocks over just for the experience. It is great fun.
The shopping in Manhattan is pretty great if you are a shopper.
Make sure you see at least one Broadway play during your honeymoon in New York City. Movies are fun, but sitting in an audience during a live performance is so much better! Tickets to the hottest shows are sold out months in advance so order your tickets online early while you are planning your wedding.
Make sure that you take the time to visit Chinatown. You don't need to pay to take the special tour, although it is not a bad idea. Visit, shop, and enjoy the great food. My parents went to Chinatown on their honeymoon in New York City and my mother still talks about the fun they had there.
The food in Chinatown is great and if you take the tour, you will learn a lot about Chinese American culture.
Of course, a visit to Central Park, especially if you are there in the fall, is in order. This is the place where city dwellers go to play and to exercise. It is a huge park filled with greenery, flowers, and gorgeous trees, so different from the rest of the concrete jungle. This is the part of the Big Apple where you can sit and relax and enjoy nature. Get a hot dog from a vendor and enjoy the scenery. Some of those vendors have the best dogs in their carts that you have ever eaten.
One other place to visit is Madison Square Garden. Plan ahead and see if there will be anything going on there that you are interested in and will want to see.
One other place is Radio City Music Hall. Again, plan ahead and buy tickets early if you can.
Enjoy your honeymoon in New York City!
Honeymoon In Australia
If you have always wanted to visit down under, a honeymoon in Australia may be just the trip for you. I think Sydney, Australia would be a great base since it has all of the modern conveniences and a beautiful beach as well.
Sydney has wonderful hotels and great places to eat so this should not be a problem for you. Your travel agent can book you a great hotel or you can do it yourself online.
So what do you do once you get there? First, I would book a harbor dinner cruise at sunset aboard the luxury MV Sydney 2000 for $99 in Australian dollars per adult for window seating. I saw this online.
The next day, I would take the Sydney Day Tour that lasts about nine hours. See the beautiful city of Sydney with a tour guide and learn all about it. You will see the Opera House that you have seen photos of, walk on beaches and find out just what this magnificent city has to offer. This is about $95 in Australian dollars.
Honeymoon In Hawaii
Many couples want to honeymoon in Hawaii looks so beautiful on TV and in the movies. I have wanted to go since the Brady Bunch went back in the early 1970's. I believe that one day soon I will get there!
The state of Hawaii consists of seven islands. Only six of them are open to tourists. The island of Niihau is a private one where about 300 people live and no one is allowed to visit it unless they are invited by one of the island's residents.
Oahu is the most highly populated island with 1 million residents and about 5 million visitors a year. Its most famous tourist attractions are Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Waikiki beach, the North Shore, and the Polynesian Cultural Center. As you can see, it is the most crowded island with good reason.
No matter which island or islands you choose to visit on your honeymoon in Hawaii, you are sure to have a wonderful time. Bring a camera, several bathing suits, flip flops, good walking shoes, plenty of sunscreen, and you will have a blast. The other six islands are open for business and want your tourist dollars! Visit one or maybe two islands if your honeymoon is for one week. If you have more time than that to spend, then move around to another island, if you would like. Try to relax and enjoy yourself on the beach as much as possible, while still visiting some of the major attractions that each island has to offer.
The island of Hawaii is known as the big island. About 140,000 people inhabit this island. It has an active volcano and has beautiful black sand beaches for you to enjoy. This is the only island that has a mountain that actually gets snow! The name of the mountain is Mauna Kea and who knew that Hawaii ever sees snow? I certainly did not before I researched for this page.
Molokai has 7.000 residents and about 80,000 visitors a year. It has a lot of uncrowded beaches and beautiful, green forests for you to explore.
Lanai has 3,000 residents and is famous for its Garden of the Gods and Shipwreck Beach. It has about 100,000 visitors a year.
Kauai is known as the garden isle and is lush. It has great beaches and beautiful coastlines for you to enjoy. 70,000 people live there and about 1 million people visit each year.
Maui has 100,000 residents and 2 million visitors a year. It is beautiful and is home to Hana, Haleakala, Kahalui, and Lahaina. It is very popular with vacationing college students. The beaches are fabulous and there is a lot of whale watching.
